Newly-wed woman commits suicide in Punjab

A newly-married woman allegedly committed suicide here by consuming a poisonous substance, police said today.

Ramandeep Kaur, who married Chamkaur Singh less than two months ago, consumed a poisonous substance yesterday. She was taken to a private hospital where she died, they said.

Kaur was allegedly being harassed for more dowry by her in-laws, according to her father Surinder Singh.

He claimed that she was fed up with the harassment and ended her life.

A case has been registered against her husband, father-in-law Harinder Singh and mother-in-law Nasib Kaur, the police said.
