Mumbai, April 29: A 63-year-old woman scientist working with Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) allegedly committed suicide in Mumbai, claimed reports on Friday.
Although there is yet to be any official confirmation, reports identified the deceased as Dr Uma Nariya Rao.
Although it is said that she was suffering from poor health, what prompted her to take such an extreme step is yet to be ascertained.
The police have recovered a suicide note left by the deceased and are investigating the case.
This is second such instance in two months. A 27-year-old woman scientist working with BARC had allegedly committed suicide at its quarters in high-security Anushakti Nagar in eastern suburbs in March.
Tital Pal, hailing from Kolkata, was found hanging with dupatta to a window rod at her 14th floor house in Nilgiri apartments.
Tital Pal committed suicide ten days after the alleged murder of another scientist Mahadevan Iyer, a mechanical engineer working in the BARC's Reactor Group. His body was found in his first floor apartment in the BARC quarters in south Mumbai on February 22, sending shock waves in the institution.
