Calm down! You can’t be that stressed. It’s not healthy! If you’re having trouble letting go of that little ball of stress, here are 37, yes Thirty Seven, things you can try from Reader’s Digest. You’re bound to find something that works. After all, who needs stress?
1. Embrace the number one truth about stress: Only you create it. Embracing the fact that stress is your reaction to external stimuli — and not the stimuli themselves — is half the battle toward managing it.
5. Use the otherwise stressful time of waiting in line as a chance to relax. As you wait, think about things in life for which you are grateful, meditate on your breath, talk to one of the other customers, or look at a magazine.
12. Don’t take the bait. Happy, low-stress people choose not to get angry, even when the opportunity is dangled right in front of them.
32. Carry a small notebook with you everywhere. This is your “worry” journal. When you feel stressed, whip it out and scribble down everything on your mind at that minute. Close the journal. Close your eyes. Take 10 deep breaths. Now open the journal and read what you’ve written. You’ll find your worries are not nearly as stressful as you thought now that you’ve gotten them out of your head and onto the page.

What to Do If Your Child Is Stressed

How To Discipline Kids
How I stopped the defiance, lying, backtalk and outbursts in 3 steps ParentLearningClub.com/Toddlers
Does your child often get sick, or do they constantly whine and cry? Do they bite their nails, act out or often throw tantrums? Then your child may be stressed. Here is a simple guide on how to handle this and change things around for the better.
The first step is to stay calm. If you become frazzled, your child’s stress level will only increase. You know the scenario – child falls and doesn’t flinch…until he hears his mother’s gasp.
The second step is to try and identify the reason behind your child’s stress. This way you will be able to develop a specific plan to reduce or eliminate it.
Here are the most common reasons children are stressed. Remember, even small babies and children can be stressed.
Overload: too many activities with no time to relax. (over-scheduled). This can refer to a baby or toddler registered in too many classes all the way to a school-aged child who has too many after-school activities.
Real-World Events: scary nightly news or exposure to world events
Trauma: divorce, accident, death in family
Peer Problems: peer pressure, bullying, rejection
Appearance: Concern with clothes, weight, appearance, fitting in
School: Grades, homework, over emphasis on performance by parent or teacher
Unrealistic Expectations: too pressured, standards too high in relation to ability
Home Problems: divorce, illness, a move, financial strain, stressed parents, sibling rivalry
After having identified the potential cause or causes of your child’s stress, move onto step three, which is to come up with a plan as to how you can reduce or eliminate the stress. Here are some things to consider working on:
1. Set a good bedtime routine.
Heavy workloads and over-scheduling can deeply affect a child’s sleep patterns. Without a good night’s sleep of at least 9-11 hours a night, stress can build. Sleep experts suggest turning off all electric items 30 mins to 1 hour before bed.
2. Turn off, eliminate, or ask for help to reduce potential stressors.
Keep the news and your adult conversations out of your child’s environment as much as possible. Hearing you discuss politics, the economic crisis or the recent death toll from a natural disaster can really stress some children. Also, ask yourself, “Is there too much yelling in our home?” Another solution to different types of problems could be to hire a tutor to help your child with homework.
3. Cut out one or more activities.
Evaluate your child’s daily schedule of school, home and extracurricular activities. How much free time does your child have left?
4. Create family routines and rituals.
Routines and rituals help reduce stress because it boosts predictability for kids. Not only will family meals, bedtime rituals, nighttime stories, hot baths, hugs and back rubs reduce stress, they will create lasting family memories.
5. Monitor TV viewing.
Kids say one big stressor to them is watching the news without an adult being there to explain late-breaking news events. We ALL could stand to watch less news as it does little to help us – limit TV or at the least, be there to help explain events that your child may see.
6. Teach your children to repeat the phrase, “I can handle this” when they begin feeling stressed, as well as to take 5 slow deep breaths when they feel overwhelmed.
Finally, the most helpful thing you as a parent can do to reduce the amount of stress your child has is to learn and practice ways of reducing your own stress. After all, less stressed parents = less stressed kids – that’s a fact.
One of the best things any parent can do for their kids once they reach about 5 or 6 years of age is to enroll them into martial arts classes for children. This is regardless of whether they are girls or boys. Martial arts are one of the best activities for kids because of the stress management, discipline and fitness. I've seen enough kids go through martial arts with so many benefits over the 40 so years I've been involved in the activity that it's now not surprising at all to me that kids now make up the majority of martial arts students. If martial arts works as a de-stresser for adults, it works just as well with additional benefits for kids.

Getting inundated with information about the terror attacks could have affected you. We get experts to help you spot symptoms of having experienced terror, and how to rectify it
Even if you weren't physically affected by the terror attacks yesterday, just living in Mumbai, watching the gruesome images on TV or being scared for the wellbeing of your loved ones could have affected you psychologically. Stress can manifest itself both significantly and in a subtle manner. Life coaches Aprajita Singh and Malti Bhojwani share tips on how to first identify and then diffuse your stress.

Physical patterns
Spot: While worrying about people you care is legitimate, don't visualize yourself in horrific situations. "The first place you will feel fear is in your stomach. The line between what you are imagining and where you really are starts blurring. Some people may start pacing around and breathe rapidly. Others sit with a hunch, constricting their chest, which causes them to take shallow breaths," says Singh.
Treat: You need to sit up straight, expand your chest and breathe deeply. Once you sense you are getting hassled, take a step back and look at everything you are worried about intelligently. "Stand on a tile in your house and feel everything negative you are going through. Then step on to another tile and think back to a time when you were very confident or felt like you achieved something remarkable. You need to see what you saw (the situation), hear what you heard (maybe applause) and feel what you felt. With these positive feelings, step back into tile one. Now assess your current situation and how you want to move forward," advises Singh.
Mood changes
Spot: Human beings are equipped to deal with physical changes, but we are quite unaware when it comes to matters of the mind. Most people will not know why they are feeling a sense of helplessness or anger towards nothing in particular after a terrorist attack. Some might feel inconsequential and small in this big universe. Bhojwani says, "If you notice yourself snapping at the wrong people or lashing out and looking to blame everyone, you need to check your mood. How are you affecting your loved ones."

Victims with severe anxiety need to seek help
5 step theory for post trauma stress
1-Reassure the victims that they are safe
2-Listen to them without being judgemental
3-In case of extreme behaviour seek professional help. Medication should be the last recourse.
4-Strike a balance between curiosity and compassion
5-Provide emotional first aid to the victims and their relatives - like befrienders /Samaritans (AASRA) do worldwide
Many people will experience feelings of anxiety and panic in their lives and often they are completely reasonable. That is to say that they appear as a result of a stressful period in your life such as starting a new job or losing a loved one. So the question is, when should you seek help? The answer to that is NOW!
Why now? Because anxiety is definitely treatable, that is to say that something can be done about it in terms of therapy, medication and self help. Yes, a certain amount of anxiety is natural and useful, as it is our bodies way of telling us there is a problem. If the anxiety has been lingering enough for you to have started researching it on the internet it is time to do soemthing about it.
That does not mean you have a reason to worry. You are not mentally ill and nor are you in all likelihood in any physical danger. The best thing to do is to start by talking to your doctor. It is more than likely that the doctor will tell you to take time out from the stresses in your life and this will probably calm you down. But if you do need to speak to a therapist or learn how to better manage the stress in your life or overcome conflicts then hopefully your doctor can point you in the right direction. For more information use the menu to the left or check out these FAQS.
Also, why not think about relaxation exercises you can do yourself, such as learning to meditate, doing yoga, or taking up exercise. Also check out some of the great self-help books available.

An account of suicide
Mom attempted suicide this weekend (self.SuicideWatch)
submitted 4 months ago by holyshitthr0waway
xpost from /r/twoxchromosomes
My mom attempted suicide this weekend. On Friday she took 60 Ativans all at once and expected not to wake up. She left a note. My parents have been going through a difficult divorce and she cited this as the reason for what she did. She took the pills Friday, and was apparently passed out (or comatose, we'll never know) all day Saturday. I live with her usually but I was at my Dad's for the weekend.
I got a weird text (unintelligible) from her Sunday morning and remembered that she had been prescribed this Ativan on Thursday and was worried she was going to try to drive, so I headed home at 6:30 AM and that was when I found her and took her to the hospital. I guess basically I'm still in crisis control mode. Because my parents are separated and my siblings are either far away or minors, I was the one in control of the whole situation, or trying to be. I think I still have the adrenaline thing going on. I haven't cried yet. I feel like some sort of professional trying to deal with this from the outside. I don't even know what I feel except pretty angry, which I guess is natural. I'm angry that she felt the need to end her life and that she knew I would be the one to find her.
If I'm all numb now...does that mean I'm going to have a breakdown later? I don't want to. I mean, truly, is it healthy for me to feel this disconnected? I feel like everyone around me is crying and everything and I feel almost nothing, or like my body is trying to protect me from the truth. I remember when one of my friends died, his brother dealt with it kind of the same way and he's all fucked up now. I don't want that to happen.
My mom is in a psych ward for now until they release her. She is trying to bust out of there ASAP. I don't want her to but she has her rights and after 48 hours she can do whatever she wants if the doctors deem her well enough to check out.
Edit I think it is finally starting to set in now, but slowly. I went in to work today but had to leave 2 hours early because my brain just kind of shut off and I put my head on my desk and stared for awhile. I work with special needs kids and knew I couldn't have a breakdown in front of them. Haven't had a breakdown yet but I will definitely get some sleep. And I'm actually kind of thinking I shouldn't be driving, as weird as that sounds. It was very hard for me to focus on the road and I felt nervous not going reeeeeeally slow.
Right now I just really want to go after the idiot psychiatrist who prescribed her 60 Adivans (a new medication for her) without having physically seen her in 3 months. Just called in the prescriptions. The psych won't answer my calls or messages and I'm sure it's because she is worried about losing her license.

Crisis mode will keep you together until you have time to fall apart. Don't worry too much about going after the psychiatrist right now - what you need to do is focus on your own life, and to some extent helping your younger siblings and mom. I doubt with school and work you will have time to support your mom, but she sounds very fragile right now. Try to be a positive force in her life. When my sister was hospitalized, I brought her art supplies and just listened to her talk. We have a difficult relationship but I remember to be human. Be kind to yourself, and keep us updated.

Wow, that is fucking intense. Take some time off work if you need to, anything to get some time for just you. I know you're worried about your mom, but it sounds like you already have a lot on your plate and it can be extremely emotionally exhausting to have to parent a parent, and its important to give yourself time away from everything to re-charge. It's good that you're posting on here, writing about stuff can be cathartic. I hope you have some very solid friends who can support you right now and some kind of creative outlet for your stress!

Please do not take this the wrong way but I am a little jealous and at the same time very, very happy the attempt failed. My mother-in-law forcibly removed herself from this world in the bedroom of me and my husband. A few days before, she tried the pill route and failed and all I can say is this: Hope for the absolute best, prepare for the absolute worst. Be sure you are taking time for self reflection in these coming days so that you can be supportive of your mother to the best of your humanly ability. I say humanly ability because some things are out of our control and we still blame ourselves for trusting the ER when they said the pills won't hurt her, take her home, she will be fine. It is all about instinct. If you feel that something is wrong call 911, you are not helpless. I know how you feel, literally, having been in that situation and it is scary, especially not knowing what may lie ahead. Be greatful, and I don't mean that in a "get over it" voice, I mean it as she is still here, embrace that instead of dwelling on what did, or could, or should have happened because someday you might not have that chance for whatever reason. I know I wish I had because I still feel really guilty.

Its clear you understand this is a serious problem and everyone has their own way of dealing with these kinds of things. Fact is you can't avoid the situation. It is hard for anyone to comment on such a topic and give advice because it all depends on your mother but at this point, you need to do whatever you can to make sure you're mother will be okay. Thankfully, she is still alive. I myself lost my mother to suicide in 2006. She suffered from depression. My best advice is to make sure you are okay. After my mother passed, I went in a big down spiral and I'm still trying to get out of it. Anyway, my point is to stay positive and stay with reality as much as you can. Avoid being alone. <---Thats very important. Don't let yourself get lost in this bad situation. Anyway, good luck to you.

Love,Pain And Happiness
As i just thought to write this blog, a plethora of thought contrasting my own views ,began to sweep my mind. So, I am pretty messed up and don’t know from where to start it. Love is the most beautiful word in English literature, happiness is something we all strive for(and live for) and pain is the brutal reality of life. Still all three of them are highly inter-related. U can't be happy without being in love and love demands lot of pain and sufferings.
As Benjamin Disreli has quoted "We are all born for love. It is the principle of existence, and its only end."I truly agree with it. U can't imagine a universe without LOVE,we are here just because we love our life and people. Sometimes, negative thoughts have that impact on us that we begin to hate everything around us,everyone seems to be disloyal,we start losing faith on others,GOD and even on ourself. This is the time when a silent pat of someone on shoulders ,tender affection of some beloved and chariness of elder-ones comes in to rescue. These all acts of love help in restoring a man , it makes him stable and gives him the courage to stand and face the world. Love has got many dimensions .It could come from anywhere and from anyone, it is just that feeling of being important to someone. But, we,Humans have restricted it to limited relations .We no longer care for loving mankind. As Mother Teresa points out" if u judge people, u wont have time to love them". We are really so much screwed that we don’t want to believe on someone until he really makes a real impact inside us and leave alone the case of loving him. But, this is a pragmatic approach and i don’t say it wrong either. Love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get, it's what you are expected to give -- which is everything.
If you are a true lover, u are bound to face many hurdles because the course of true love never runs smooth. Love and pain are two faces of same coin. The true meaning of love can be felt by someone who has really felt the maximum pain. It has been said that all the great lovers have been losers. It has a great meaning attached to it. Hundreds of them leave everything in their way to achieve what they love and its quite common to see that they haven't been able to acheive that. The value of water is worth the most to one who is thirsty in desert for an entire day. So, pain is an integral part of love. Even nature supports this fact; u can't have a rose without a throne, a lotus without mud. So, if u want to love someone or something, be prepared to pay the price for that.
Now, comes happiness. Everyone in this world wants to be happy and he is persuading his happiness. Happiness to me means the feeling of being recognized and cared. And this feeling can't come if u are not in love.U are happy because ur loved ones are happy. You need to love everything that comes ur way.It gives u positive energy and fills the ambience with aroma of happiness..
Love is the greatest refreshment in life. The heart that loves is always young. So, lets come forward and love everyone in this world.Feel the pain associated with it and then only we can be happy. This is love, pain and happiness according to me.
Art of feeling Empowered…..
In recent time’s positive psychology, stress management, good ways of leading life have become toast of the town.... Everybody seems to be talking about it..... Depression, anxiety and stress are fast becoming part and parcel of modern lifestyle.... I sometimes can’t help myself from wondering why in spite of living better life than our previous generations (comfort wise) we are always whining about things??? We all are in some kind of rat race and are endlessly chasing things (which we ourselves don’t really know but we are chasing because we don’t want to get left behind in the race)....
Our inability of being in control of things around causes anxiety and stress and pushes us into depression …. But one should realize that it’s very difficult to control one’s environment … So the smart way is to fix inside rather than trying to fix outside …. Environment, circumstances, situations, conditions etc are very difficult to control so one should focus on changing one’s attitude and the way he perceives things….. To illustrate this let me tell a story.... Once a man was walking he crossed one man and asked what are you doing? The man replied with anger can’t you see I am cutting stone ... He moved further and asked another man what he was doing? He replied with helplessness and misery that he is trying to earn a square meal for himself and his family by doing whatever work is given to him.... He moved further and asked another man what he was doing. He replied with great joy and delight that he was building a magnificent and splendid temple.... All these three men were doing the same thing but what determined their level of satisfaction was their state of mind i.e. the context in which they were thinking about it rather than the situation itself.....
And this context i.e. way of looking at things, perceiving them and drawing experiences from it is in our hands unlike the content which depends on lots of other factors. It is also said in Gita that Karma is in one’s hand not its fruit so why bother about it and whine. Karma is how one reacts to their environment .When you understand that you stop blundering through life and feel empowered, as you know for sure that you are the director, producer and actor of your life. So focus on your inner well being and always remember that quality of life depends more on the intentional activities i.e. cognitive, behavioral and volitional activities which we choose to do than the circumstances and situation we face ……

treating burns
Treating burns.
Egg white
One hopes never to be needing it, but just in case:...
A simple but effective way to treat burns with the help of egg white.
This method is used in the training of firemen.
When sustaining a burn, regardless the degree, the first aid is always placing the injured part under running cold water till the heat subsides.
And next spread the egg white over the injury.
Someone burned a large part of her hand with boiling water. Despite the pain she held her hand under running water, then took two eggs, parted the yolk from the egg white and slightly beat the egg white and put her hand in it. Her hand was so badly burned that the egg white dried and formed a white film. Later she heard that the egg is a natural collagen.
And during the next hour layer upon layer, she administered a white layer on her hand.
That afternoon she didn't feel any more pain and the next day there hardly was a red mark to see. She thought she would have an awful scar but to her astonishment after ten days there was no sign of the burn, the skin had it's normal colour again!
The burned area had been totally regenerated thanks to the collagen, in reality a placenta full of vitamins. This advice can be useful for everyone.
Circulate it!
