Hospital design helps your brain recover fast

Hospital design help your brain to recover fast’ PTI | Nov 3, 2011, 06.10AM IST Article Comments Read more:Sweden|Nurses|Hospital|brain 0 WASHINGTON: The next time you fall ill, visit the best designed hospital of your town, as a new study has found that well-planned architecture, structural design and sensory stimulation increase a patient's ability to recover fast both physically and mentally. Researchers at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden who looked into how hospital environments affect the brain found that digital textiles and multisensory spaces at hospitals can make a person's rehabilitation more effective and reduce the amount of time spent in care. "We want to help patients to get involved in their rehabilitation, a side effect of which can be an improvement in self-confidence ," said study researcher Kristina Sahlqvist, an interior architect at the university's School of Design and Crafts (HDK). Their research into how hospitals can develop better environments for rehabilitation drew on all the expertise used on a ward, with input from neurologists, rehabilitation doctors, nurses , psychologists and physiotherapists . The result is a conceptual solution for an optimal rehabilitation ward , the university said.
