MUMBAI: The condition of the first-year textile chemistry student of Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI), who tried to hang himself on the college premises on Wednesday, continues to remain critical. Sion hospital doctors confirmed that the patient's breathing is still supported by ventilator.
The 19-year-old's parents rushed to the civic-run hospital as soon as they reached the city on Thursday morning from Chandrapur. The reason behind the teenager's suicide attempt is still a mystery.
Assistant commissioner of police (Matunga division) Dilip Suryavanshi told TOI that they were hoping his parents would throw some light on the reason behind the drastic step. "But even they were clueless. We have to wait for him to regain consciousness," he said.
The boy's cousin Zeeshan said his condition has been more or less the same since Wednesday when he was brought to the hospital in a breathless state. He was found hanging from a pipe in the terrace adjacent to a classroom. "He has not regained consciousness even once. We are praying from him," he said.
Deputy dean Dr Rakesh Verma of Sion Hospital said, "The patient is still critical and unconscious. He is in the intensive respiratory care unit, and on ventilator."
